Talking about photos or pictures

This is a tipical exam's exercise, you have to speak about a photo or picture that the teacher show you, so you have to be confidence describing you are seeing.

Some tips to start the description could be:

Where?
------
On the right / On the left (side)
At the top / At the bottom
In the background / in the foreground
In the corner

In Contrast;
------------
but
whereas
while
however
in contrast

How?
----
beside / next to
close to / near

in front of
opposite
behind
above/over
below/under

between
far from

Example:

Description

On the left side we can see a man sit down on the top of a staircase.
On the right side there are three childreen playing together. In the background there is a big sun. While the children are enjoying together, the man seems not very happy.
Behind the girl, there is a boy chasing her. This boy is between the girl and the fair boy. Opposite to these boys there is a man, below this man there is a staircase ,and behind the man there is a advertisement with the message "The top".

This is a tYpical exam('s) exercise,(ésto es una cosa de íngles, nada como así en español.) you have to TALK (speak) about a photo or picture that the teacher show(S) you, so you have to be confidenT(ce) describing WHAT you are seeing.

whereas (solo abogados dicen ésto)

On the left side we can see a man SITTING (sit down) on the top of a staircase.
On the right side there are three childreen playing together. In the background there is a big sun. While the children are having fun (enjoying) together, the man DOESN'T SEEM TO BE (seems not) very happy.
Behind the girl, there is a boy chasing her. This boy is between the girl and the fair boy. Opposite to these boys there is a man, below this man there is a staircase ,and behind the man there is a advertisement with the message "The top".

Todavía, muy bien! :-)

No es staircase, es ladder.

(there is a big sun) Solo hay un sol, así que, el sol está(?) muy grande. The sun is (appears, looks) very big.

No es advertisement, es sign.

These things can be quite confusing especially when you are describing a picture. These prepositions can actually make or break your sentence construction. thanks for your tips. ":)

This is a good idea, I think I will use it to teach my students about preposition.

Using pictures are great ways to encourage descriptive language, including being able to demonstrate spatial prepositions and adverbs.

Thank for posting your English language learning materials.
